Target is ramping up its school credits as it gears up for back-to-school shopping.
The discounter is opening a college section, launching an exclusive lifestyle brand for tween girls and expanding its popular Cat & Jack kids line.
Target said it will open in-store shops stocked with essentials for college living in more than 700 Target locations. The shops will feature items for bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and more.
Target is also opening more small-format stores close to college campuses. Currently, Target has 23 stores located on or very close to college campuses across the country. It will open locations near Michigan State, the University of Washington and University of Kentucky, Lexington in time for fall classes.
Online, Target is offering a 360-degree shoppable dorm room tool that lets customers explore life-like spaces virtually and shop each look.
Target’s college promotion is only part of a bigger back-to-school initiative. It includes the launch of a new house brand, “More than Magic,” which Target described as its first full lifestyle line. Designed for tween girls, the collection includes school supplies, apparel and accessories, beauty items and more. The brand, which launches in-store and online July 13, is priced at $0.99 to $29.99.
The retailer is also expanding its Cat & Jack kids uniform line, with dresses, sweaters, jumpers, shorts and jersey polos. It also is creating dedicated spaces for the boys’ and girls’ areas.
In addition, Target is bringing back its online “school list assist” list, which allows customers to find their student’s school and grade (with a school name option for even easier searching), and select their supplies. And it has expanded its “teacher prep event. The promotion, which runs July 13-20, allows teachers to save 15% on select classroom supplies. It has added select adult apparel and some other items to the deal this year.
