Jeff Bezos roasted for $690,000 donation to Australian bushfires, people say he could have done more, Retail News, ET Retail

Amazon’s founder, Jeff Bezos, is in the eye of the storm due to his donation to the victims of Australian bushfires. The tech mogul donated $690,000 but netizens feel that the founder of a multi-billion dollar company could have done a lot more.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Bezos wrote, “Our hearts go out to all Australians as they cope with these devastating bushfires. Amazon is donating 1 million AU dollars in needed provisions and services. Find more about it and learn how customers can help as well.”

The internet couldn’t help but fume at the rather miniscule amount of donation by Bezos whose net worth is $117.2 billion as per Forbes, with some even pointing out that he makes the amount he donated in minutes.

Peter Daou, a Democratic strategist, called out the multi-billionaire for his donation.

Several users on Twitter berated Bezos for the same reason.

This Twitter user pointed out that sex workers are donating more to the Australian bushfires than Bezos.

To put things in perspective, while Facebook has pledged $1.25 million towards relief efforts, metal band Metallica, which Forbes estimates is worth $68.5 million, has pledged $7,50,000.

For the unversed, Australian bushfires have wreaked havoc on the continent and have damaged areas as long as 80,000 square kilometers. Around 28 people have died and 2,000 homes have been burnt.
