Report: Best Buy CEO implicated in inappropriate relationship

Best Buy CEO Corie Barry

The chief executive of Best Buy says she is cooperating with a probe into her alleged romance with a company VP.

MarketWatch, following up on an article originally published in the Wall Street Journal, reports that the Best Buy board is investigating an anonymous letter it received Dec. 7 which accused Corie Barry, CEO of Best Buy, of previously engaging in a longterm relationship with Karl Sanft, who spent 20 years in executive roles at Best Buy. Most recently, Sanft served as senior VP of retail operations and U.S. retail stores at the consumer electronics chain, before leaving to become COO of 24-Hour Fitness in April 2019.

Barry, who has also been with Best Buy for 20 years, was promoted to CEO from the role of CFO in June 2019. The story is developing, watch for more coverage in Chain Store Age.
