Gurugram Police directs officers to allow e-commerce services On Wednesday, hours after e-commerce firm Flipkart announced temporary suspension of all services in the view of the 21-day nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus, Gurugram Police directed all officers that e-commerce services by Flipkart, Amazon, BlueDart, WoW Express, Swiggy, and others shall be allowed to operate in the city.

The announcement was made through Gurugram Police’s twitter handle which read, “All officers of Gurugram Police have been directed that following online delivery services @zomato @flipkart @amazon @bluedart @wow_express @swiggy @groffers @bigbasket @milkbasket @dunzo @bigbazzar @Iffco Tokyo goods shall be allowed to operate.”

There have been numerous accounts of police manhandling and even beating delivery personnel of e-commerce companies. On Tuesday, Amazon released a statement saying that while it is not suspending operations, it will be selective in its deliveries. “To serve customers’ most urgent needs while also ensuring their safety of our associates, we are prioritizing all our resources to serve products that are currently high priority for customers. Other products are temporarily unavailable for purchase,” the statement read.
