Cash on delivery payment option suspended on Amazon, Flipkart, 1MG In the wake of the government implementing lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) disease, e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart, online pharmacy delivery firms such as 1MG have temporarily stopped accepting cash on delivery (COD) payment method.

The COD payment method is “Temporarily suspended”https://retail.economictimes.indiatimes.com/” from the list of payment methods they accept for shopping on their websites.. You can currently pay using credit/debit cards, UPI, net banking or e-wallets. The e-commerce platforms have also limited their services to delivery of only essential products at doorstep, as per their websites.

The essential products include grocery, home cleaning products, health and fitness products and pet supplies.
Amazon, Flipkart and 1MG suspend COD option

These online delivery platforms have temporarily suspended the COD payment option to minimize the risk of spreading of coronavirus infection and to ensure the practice of social distancing.

The RBI’s advice to the public to minimise use of currency and opt for digital banking may have also influenced this decision.

Amazon
The Amazon website shows that the ‘Pay on Delivery’ option has been ‘Temporarily suspended’. The site also states: “We have resumed deliveries in select pin codes of select cities. We are only delivering existing orders of essential products purchased using pre-paid payment methods. Due to the lockdown and restrictions in movement, these deliveries might be delayed. We thank you for your patience,” According to Amazon notification on its website.

Flipkart
In case of Flipkart’s e-commerce website too you cannot choose COD option when you shop on the site. As per the website: , “Your safety amidst the COVID 19 outbreak is our priority. To ensure no -contact deliveries, only prepaid order can be placed at this time”

1Mg
1MG is a e-commerce website which offers medicines and pharmaceutical products. Cash on Delivery option is not available on 1 MG online platform as well. The 1 MG website states:, “COD payment is disabled. Help us do our bit to reduce key carriers of coronavirus infection and switch to online payments.”

PharmEasy
Cash on Delivery option is available on PharmEasy which is also an e-commerce website for pharmaceutical products. However, they are charging Rs 50 extra if a person uses Cash on Delivery option to buy medicines. The website states, “Rs 50 will be charged on using Cash on Delivery. Select one of the online payment modes to save Rs50 and to Stay Safe.”

Apart from this, the online food ordering and delivery platforms Zomato have introduced No-contact delivery method only for those customers who pay online for their order.. The Zomato app read, “Contactless deliveries are only available for online prepaid orders.”

‘No-contact delivery’ means that the delivery man will visit your place and keep the order at your doorstep on a clean surface instead of giving it in your hands. This precautionary measure is aimed at ensuring that social distancing is well maintained amid coronavirus outbreak.
